In above mentioned guide, we’ve used percentage values to limit Windows Update bandwidth and not the absolute values. Though the system can dynamically adjust the amount of bandwidth for download and upload of Windows and app updates. However, configuring the limits gets Windows on right track.
But with percentage values to limit bandwidth, Microsoft found that users with lower connection speeds aren’t getting much benefit. And there is less impact of such setting on the network. Hence it deal with this, Microsoft introduced absolute bandwidth with Windows 10 Version 2004 (with build 18917 in 20H1 development branch). Using the absolute values, one can set exact figures to limit Windows Update bandwidth for foreground and background downloads. Foreground downloads and downloads you initiate, for example, downloading apps from Microsoft Store.
How To Set Absolute Bandwidth For Windows Update
1. Right click Start Button or press + X keys and select Settings.
2. In the Settings app, navigate to Update & Security > Delivery Optimization.
3. In the right pane of Delivery Optimization, click on Advanced options.
4. Under Advanced options, for Download settings, select the Absolute bandwidth option. Then you can set absolute values to limit bandwidth for downloading updates in background/foreground.
5. Your settings should be saved and applied immediately. You can close Settings app and return to where you were.
So this is how you can configure absolute bandwidth in your Windows 10.
