Windows 11 provides notifications to stay updated with apps/programs, updates, system features etc. These notifications will be displayed for 5 seconds, by default. If you react on a notification within 5 seconds, you’ll be taken to the app or feature generating that notification. Else, if you don’t react, the notification will be moved to Notifications Center visible by pressing + N keys as shortcut. If you want to change notifications duration in Windows 11, this article is for you.
So as I said, by default, notifications will be only visible for 5 seconds. For some users, this time may be very less. In that case, they might be looking forward to increase or change this time. If you’re also looking forward to same, here’s how you can do this.

How to change notifications duration in Windows 11
Method 1 – Using Settings app
1. Press + I keys to open Settings app.
2. In the Settings app, go to Accessibility > Visual effects.
3. Here, you’ll find the Dismiss notifications after this amount of time option. By default, it is set to 5 seconds. If you want to display notifications for a larger time, click on drop-down and select a time best suited for you. In this example, I’ve set this time to 15 seconds.
That’s it and you should now see the notifications on your screen for the time you specified.
Method 2 – Via Registry
1. Run regedit
command to open Registry Editor.
2. In left pane of Registry Editor window, navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Accessibility
3. In the right pane of Accessibility, locate the MessageDuration named registry DWORD (REG_DWORD). By default, you’ll find it set to 5. Double click on it and select Decimal base first. Now set the Value data to number of seconds you want to display notifications. In this example, I’ve set it to Value data 15, which allows notifications to display for 15 seconds. Click OK.
4. Once done, close Registry Editor and restart Windows Explorer to make changes effective.
IT administrators can deploy above registry change for their clients using this guide.
That’s it!
