Action Centre in Windows 10 helps you to get notification about apps and other system activities. You can immediately react on several issues using respective notifications. In Windows 10 successive versions, Microsoft has tried to enhance Action Centre so that it becomes more productive for the clients. If the Action Centre is not working on your system, you can surely check out this fix. In this post, we’ll learn how you can fix, if Action Centre icon greyed out in Windows 10 Settings app.
So basically in Settings app, you can configure which icons you want to show on taskbar. From here, you can also configure if you want to show Action Centre icon on taskbar. But if you are trying to change the setting and it is greyed out, you won’t be able to configure it. As you can see in the screenshot below, the Action Centre icon is greyed out. This means if it is in On state, it can’t be changed to Off state and vice versa.
So how to fix it so that you can change it to desired On or Off state just like other icons present there? Well, here is the solution that can resolve your problem.
Fix: Action Center icon greyed out in Windows 10
1. Open Registry Editor, by running regedit
command.
2. In left pane of Registry Editor window, go to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
3. In the right pane of explorer registry key, locate the DisableNotificationCenter registry DWORD. As you’re facing this problem, the Value data for this registry DWORD should be set to 1. You can change the Value data to 0 or simply right click on the DWORD and select Delete. Click Yes in the confirmation prompt appearing next.
4. Now run gpupdate /force
command and check, you should be now able to turn On or Off the Action Center icon as usual in Windows 10 Settings app.
