The Photos app comes preinstalled with Windows 11. It is the native image previewing and editing app available on Windows 11. The Photos app has involved as a robust app in last few years as Microsoft continues to develop it and add new features. Recently, Microsoft has added the capability to blur image background in Photos for Windows 11. In this guide, we will see how you can blur a picture background on your Windows 11 system.
The background blur option in Photos app can be found in following versions:
- For stable Windows 11 users, version 23H2/2023 update or later
- For Windows Insiders in Canary and Dev channel, version 2023.11090.13001.0 or later.
- For Windows Insiders in Beta and Release Preview channel, version 2023.11090.20015.0 or later.
Here’s how you can use this feature.
Blur image background in Photos for Windows 11
Open the image for which you want to blur the background with the Photos app.
Click on the Edit image icon at the top of the window of Photos app.
Next when the editing options opens, click on the Background blur icon as shown in below screenshot.
Now the Photos app will automatically detect the background of your image. It can now automatically or manually apply the background blur effect. You can set the blur intensity manually depending upon how blur the background you want. Additionally, you can turn on the Selection brush tool option here and select a brush tool. Once you are satisfied with the background blur, you can click on Apply button.
Now your image will have background blur added. You can save the image then. Or if you’re not satisfied with current blur intensity for the image, you can click Add new background blue option. Follow the previous step to add desired blur intensity.
Once done, you can close Photos app. You can drop a feedback to Microsoft if blur option doesn’t works for you.
